LG and Marriott Expand Guest Room Technology: What It Means for Hotel Owners

LG and Marriott have announced a new guest room technology platform built around smart hotel TVs and cloud technology. The collaboration brings in-room entertainment, device management, hotel content, and connected room functions into one platform. The announcement shows where guest room technology is heading. The TV is taking on a larger role in the hotel technology stack.

A New Platform for Marriott Guest Rooms

LG and Marriott jointly developed the new platform for participating Marriott hotels. LG is contributing cloud platform development, connected-device capabilities, device management, and technical support. Marriott is contributing expertise in guest experience design, hotel operations, and enterprise technology requirements.

The platform will begin with a pilot across 40 Marriott locations in the United States and Canada. Marriott and LG plan to use the pilot as a foundation for possible expansion across participating Marriott brands.

The platform supports linear television, streaming, and FAST channels. LG says the system includes more than 40 OTT applications and 250 channels. It also supports authentication and management for LG smart hotel TVs and set-top boxes. LG says the platform can reduce reliance on traditional on-premises video distribution infrastructure.

Centralized Management Moves Into Focus

The platform gives Marriott a centralized environment for in-room technology management. Hotel teams can monitor device health, performance, and status from one system. That visibility can cover a single guest room. It can also cover a hotel, a group of properties, or a broader portfolio.

Centralized management can help teams identify issues faster. It can also support content updates and application updates across connected devices. This supports properties with large room counts or multi-property portfolios. Scale matters across hotel portfolios.

The guest experience remains part of the plan. The platform is designed to bring entertainment, hotel content, and room functions into a unified television experience. LG and Marriott also plan to explore connected digital experiences in public and shared hotel spaces as the collaboration develops.

What This Means for Hotel Owners

This collaboration reinforces a shift that we have been tracking across hospitality technology. The guest room TV now has a larger role in the property’s technology plan.

Owners need to think about the display, the network, the platform, and ongoing device management during the same planning process. A hotel TV purchase can affect guest entertainment and property operations for years. The surrounding infrastructure also shapes how well those systems perform.
